Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl of just five years old her family moved to Oxfordshire and attended at the Dragon School. Emma chose to become an actor when she was six. Through the years she was in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing as well as dancing, and also acting. As a ten year old Emma was a participant in multiple Stagecoach productions and school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) is the film version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel was first cast for the first for the first time on January 1, 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for the role. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first appearance in a film was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The movie broke all records with regards to opening day and weekend numbers, and was the most successful 2001 film. The film has been praised by critics for its film as well as the performances given by three of the main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British paper, called Emma's performance "amazing". Emma received the Young Artist Award as the Most Outstanding Young Actress in the Feature Film. The actress was nominated five times for her part in the film.
